Join us in creating a safer, more inclusive world for GLBT persons and their families! Since the founding of our chapter in 1983, volunteers have been and continue to be, the driving force of our organization. Our volunteers serve in all capacities throughout our mission areas of support, education and advocacy. Many opportunities are available for volunteers, from serving on our Speakers' Bureau or answering our Helpline, to staffing a PFLAG DC information table for United Way fairs and community events. Through the growth of the Internet, volunteerism has changed significantly. Many volunteer activities can now be done at home, or on a home computer these "virtual volunteer" activities greatly assist organizations operating on a limited budget. Volunteers allow us to stretch our resources, thereby increasing the time, number of staff and physical space in which we work. For example, virtual volunteers can write articles, do computer research, design flyers and brochures, or advocate for Metro DC PFLAG all from the convenience of home! For volunteers without access to a personal computer, we have additional activities that can be done at home, including staffing a phone tree, or writing commentaries for local publications. We welcome your interest in volunteering for Metro DC PFLAG! |
